If a workplace can get away with dumping new responsibilities on employees without giving them anything in return, you can bet they will give it a go. There are plenty of employees who won't notice they are being taken advantage of, and will gladly agree to more work with nothing in return. They will probably convince themselves that it is good for the experience, and at least they can put the extra responsibility in their resume, for the next job to come.
If you are not interested in gaining 'more experience', and happy with the way your job is at the moment, you can definitely say 'no' if your boss offers you more work, without so much as a cent of a raise. At least that is what the employee in this Reddit story did. After OP (original poster) was asked to rewrite their job description to contain more responsibilities, but was offered nothing in return, OP showed up to the meeting with their boss with a description of the exact job they were hired to do. Their boss didn't know how to respond to OP's refusal to comply…
