If you know someone who ran the marathon, odds are you were keenly aware of it. Probably more than you want to. They've probably made it abundantly clear that they've run a marathon. And to be fair, all credit to them. That's not an easy gig. But why, a couple of times a year, does it become everyone else's problem? Most people don't do that with their hobbies.
But maybe I'm being too cynical because the New York City Marathon is also a wonderful time of year for a few things: having your commute be upended by the route, day drinking, and funny signs. People spend all year coming up with funny little puns, phrases, and jokes to put on their poster board signs and carry above their heads for all of Sunday.
