When a studio in a Pacific coast beach town used to be $700/month, it's closer to $2,000 now for the same apartment. People are making it work with roommates, and unique living situations, such as living in garages, sheds, or a gallery. Resentment can start to build when you see your roommates not only breaking even, but surpassing their rent costs while you're struggling. It's not easy out there, but despite your roommate making more money than you, it's usually not the factor that decides the price of the rooms. Some people like to split the rent equally, some people decide based on size or amenities that an individual room offers. 

This brings us to the Reddit thread. In this story, the original poster (OP) is a woman who lives with three other roommates. Though their quarters are close, she's rarely home, due to being an EMT. Her roommates, however, didn't realize she was finished with her residency, and off to making the big bucks. After finding out, they confront her. But is it fair to pay more rent just because you make more?
