Part of the beauty of memes is how temporary they are, in every sense. They are often very quick to make, they usually don't take more than a couple of seconds to consume, and the majority of them get quickly forgotten after they have served their immediate purpose. There are obviously the lucky few that stand the test of time, but there are in the very minority. If we think about it, this can encourage us to live in the moment and take every stupid image designed to entertain us as it comes. If we're honest, nothing lasts, and memes understand that perfectly well. At least they make our existential crises humorous, as well as giving us something to occasionally distract from them. Scrolling on your phone for hours may sometimes seem like a pointless exercise, but it's important to remember that if you do it right, it's the best kind of distraction.
