Collaboration is the key to a functioning household. If you and your partner can't clean the house and buy groceries without them breathing down your neck about how you're doing it wrong or vice versa, you're in for a problematic future. It shouldn't be too hard to go to the grocery store when you notice that you're low on certain items you really need, and ask your partner if they need anything from said store. Whether you're bringing home the bacon, keeping house, or both, that should be in your wheelhouse if you're old enough to have a lease.
Unfortunately, some households will always have some passive aggression regarding household chores. It's one thing to ask, "When was the last time you watered the plants?" or "Can you do the dishes this time?" but asking your wife and the mother of your children why certain food items are missing from the kitchen is the lamest "joke" ever.
