The common thread you might see in many family disputes is money, and the concept of "that's what family does for one another". The latter is typically used as a scapegoat for entitled people to justify their selfish actions and/or asks, and it usually never works. The idea of "family" doesn't always mean that one can do whatever they want, go back on previous promises, or take without giving back. This is unfortunately super common in in-law family disputes. Folks take advantage of their role in one's life and act high and mighty in hopes they won't get called out for it.
The man in this Reddit story is at a loss for words after he was asked to pay back his wife's parents for a $1K cash gift the parents gave them after a miscalculation during tax season. Within this time frame, the married couple housed the wife's parents, expense-free, for 6 months while they were looking for a new home closer to the couple. The man clarifies that the parents insisted that they don't have to pay them back the $1K, and to "just show [them] a fun time" while they were visiting. What do you think? Should the couple pay them back? Scroll below to get the full story.
