Mother-Daughter Relationship Intensifies When Daughter Gets Eloped Suddenly, Creating Wedge Between Husband and Wife When He Takes Daughter’s Side

The good ol' mother-daughter dynamic…I can't count how many female friends I have with 'mommy issues.' It's almost like an epidemic. From what I've seen, daughters are either extremely close with their mothers, to the point that they're practically best friends, or they butt heads time and time again. 

In this Reddit thread, not only does this woman have a somewhat strained relationship with her mother, but she's always been the 'wild child.' The original poster (OP) is the father, who writes that the daughter has always been their nontraditional kid. She has tattoos, crazy hair, moved away at a young age, has several degrees, and now wants to get married. She's informed her family that she will not be having a traditional wedding; she will have a small gathering of close and immediate friends and family. To the mother's distress, she insisted that her daughter have a traditional wedding.
