Something is fishy in this story, and it's not anything to tank lightly…
This self-proclaimed fish enthusiast was allowed by their employer to keep a fish tank at their desk, something that brightens up their day, the tank supplied and financed by themself alone. Their coworkers, however, latched on to the idea, proclaiming that it would be more fun to open up the fish tank to everyone and make it a communal office engagement project. Their lack of knowledge and unwillingness to learn about the ins and outs of what is actually involved in taking care of a tank of tropical fish, combined with their senseless proposals, made this seem like a daunting proposal. Their hesitance to allow others to make suggestions and "help" with their tank started accusations of selfishness and split the office. It's enough to make you want to say, "Tanks… but no tanks."
These coworkers are exactly the type of people who will intentionally try to spoil something good by making an issue out of it in the name of "fairness" until management is forced to instate blanket policies that make everything worse and less flexible for everyone.
