One of the things that we keep telling non-pet owners is that our cats are our family. They just are. They are a constant and consistent part of our lives and our homes, and we are just as thankful for them being by our sides as we are any other family member. That's why stories like the one we have for you today hit us so hard. Look, every cat rescue story is something that we are thankful for, because every cat deserves a home, and rescuing a cat from danger is one of the kindest, most incredible things that you can do.
But when you have to make a choice, like this man had to, between saving your cat and saving something else in your home - pictures, electronics, valuables, and you choose your cat… It just reinforces what we said in the beginning. Cats are family, and no matter what, you save your family first.
Houses can be replaced, but a kitten, a friend, a family member, cannot, and that is why this picture is so powerful. We could not imagine losing our house at the age of eighty-three. It would be devastating. But losing our cat would be far more devastating no matter when it happened.
And as much as seeing the two of them so sad at this point, it made us so, so happy to see them content later on. As long as you have your loved ones - and your cat is indeed included in that category - you will be fine.
