When a DM gets coy, you know the game is about to get spicy.
When your whole party goes into a dank, dark cave to explore the treasures within, you know things are about to get crazy when the party requests a move and the DM says, 'You can certainly try'. Any avid Dungeons and Dragons player will tell you that this phrase is the beginning of the end for a TPK. What's inside? A goblin hoard? A dragon? A sly, mysterious traveler with a hood and a bag of secrets? You'll never know until you bravely march forth.
Barbarians, clerics, and bards alike will still see that phrase as a challenge. Even your level 1 wizard–the newbie you've allowed into your game night crew–is chomping at the bit to get some action on the dice. So let them roll a natural 20 and destroy the wonders within the cave. The beginner's luck is stronger than you think, and the double-IPA's they brought to your DM's house are starting to kick in. This is a DnD fan's best night ever.
So if you're already looking forward to your next game night with your best role-playing buds, prepare your best battle cry and cook up some finger foods, because gameplay is back on your calendars this week.
