I don't know how things were at your house, but when I was a child, my parents had an entire pantry dedicated just for snacks. As kids, we were allowed to take as many snacks as we wanted, whenever we wanted to. I remember going over to my friends' houses and realizing this was not the norm. Everyone else's parents kept snacks in a secret, sometimes locked, drawer. My friends had to ask for permission to have a snack, and they'd only get one if they had done all their chores—it was a whole process.
Now, you might think that my siblings and I just ate snacks all day, but you'd be wrong. The fact that it wasn't locked up and we had access to as many snacks as we wanted actually made them "not that special." To this day, I don't have much of a sweet tooth. My friends, on the other hand, would come over to my house just to eat as many snacks as they possibly could.
