Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Meaning that you really shouldn't go around criticizing and finding fault with a gift or assistance that has been given to you for free... It's not every day that someone gives you something of considerable value without expectation of anything in return, so in these cases, it would be especially foolish to throw it back in their face and demand they give you more. But this isn't logical reasoning and critical thinking that the woefully entitled are prone to.
It's probably worth noting here that there's really not a lot of horse gifting going on these days… and $15k cash doesn't really have a mouth to look in. Though, one would have to imagine that you could buy a horse for $15k, if you wanted to. But, I can't claim to be an expert in the buying, selling, trading, nor the appraisal of horses—so don't take my word for it. In fact, I'm of the opinion that horses are quite frightening… though they are fantastic creatures.
But, that's quite enough talk about horses, so I digress. This uncle shared how he had offered to help his niece with her wedding, thinking that he'd offer something to the tune of $15k. Well, his niece went swinging for the fences and went and booked an eleaorate affair totaling $50k, expecting that her uncle would pay for it; no checking in updates, or confirmation, nothing to let him know what her progress and estimated tecosts would be. When the gap between expectation and reality was revealed, it caused an argument and rift in the family that left the uncle wondering whether or not he was wrong for not giving her the money.
Read his story below, along with some of the responses in the comments, and decide for yourself.
