‘Why won't you fire the dude?’ Manager discovers employee is stealing money, informs owner, only to have the stolen amount deducted from their pay for not stopping it

Although we love to judge managers here, being one is not an easy task. It is challenging to be responsible for multiple employees, as each step they take reflects directly to their manager. So when we hear stories of managers taking a hit because of something their employees did, we do feel for them, as we know that some managers are just trying to do their jobs as best as they can, just like the rest of us.

When the manager (OP, original poster) in this story discovered one of their employees was stealing money from the business's safe, they did not imagine they would get blamed for it, but they did. As they informed their boss, the business owner, about the theft, the owner simply told OP that they were responsible for not noticing sooner and that OP should be the one to pay for it. The owner also refused to fire the employee who stole the money, so unsurprisingly, the theft continued, and OP was again the person to blame…
