The most destabilizing thing you can do to a D&D party is throw a girl into the mix. One minute, we're all confidently doing our best cleric voice and creating intricately weird backstory lore, and the next moment we're catching a lady up to speed on our universe. Don't get me wrong, I'm a woman and I play Dungeons and Dragons, but I can honestly say that it took some time for the party to get fully comfortable with my presence. Luckily during my first session, the DM was clear that I would receive no special favors and no special treatment–If the party goes down in a legendary battle with a Steele Dragon guarding a mysterious treasure, I go down with them.
Fortunately, in a man's world, D&D has flourished. Dudes gathering one night a week can let loose, let their wizard's hair down, and relax with the gang before the crushing reality of our workweek sets in. And male or female, once you've got a good group of players gathered to throw down the 20-sided die for priority, all that matters are the NPCs, the battles, and a carefully curated character backstory.
Play on players, and consider welcoming a fair lady into your midst for a round of D&D.
