There are a lot of unspoken rules that go into being a guest in someone else's home. It's your job to be gracious, grateful, polite, and not overstay your welcome. You generally shouldn't show up empty handed, you should accept when they offer something, and the rest is cake. Arriving late is obviously a no-no, but arriving early can be just as much of a faux pas. If you're invited to a party that says it starts at 7, then showing up at 6:50 is not acceptable. Even showing up right at 7 is pushing it, as you need to give the host a little grace period to put the final touches on their party. It's a delicate balance, but everything can be saved by the right attitude.
Unfortunately, one host's family members did not internalize that axiom, and ended up hurting some feelings in the process. Read on for the story and see what you think.
