One of my favorite sci-fi conventions is the talking robot sidekick. I love when a little robot guy has funny quips and one-liners, and has a personality of its own. Like R2-D2 or Moby from Tim and Moby. They may not have emotions, but they do provide excellent comic relief. I wish the real robots in our regular lives were funny. I wish my Amazon Alexa helped me with adventures and wisecracked along the way. Sure, if you ask her to tell a joke she'll spit back a clunky one-liner, but it's not the same.
That's why we have movies, so we can put real humans behind those funny robots, thus giving them life and humanity. Real-life robots don't have that yet. And maybe that's actually a good thing, lest we bring about the robot revolution or whatever you want to call it. Memes about them will have to do just as well.
