There is a saying that many TikTok users like to deploy in the comment section when their For You Page serves them up a particularly strange, cringey, or otherwise unexpected video: "I built this FYP brick by brick". It's an acknowledgment that, for better or worse, a lot of us terminally online scrollers engage with platforms in a way that brings all kinds of weird and not-so-wonderful content to our eyeballs. After a certain point, there is little use resisting it because we only become more acclimatized to the levels of oddity, day by day. TikTokers are well aware of this and have no problem in pushing the boundaries in every way that they see fit. It means that they gain plenty of viral attention even outside of the clock app and that their cultural impact is likely to last into the foreseeable future (any potential ban not withstanding, of course).
