If a spaceship came down to my place of work and told me to hop aboard, I don't know if I'd do it. Sure, space travel sounds fun, and it would be pretty existentially humbling to see the world spinning without me on it, but it's also… scary. I went to Space Camp when I was a kid and they regaled us of all the awful things that can happen to your body while you're in space. Your limbs might atrophy, your head might explode, and you may not be returned home… ever. I like my odds of survival much better on land.
So thank goodness we have movies and TV that let us live vicariously through characters who are braver than we are. I'm content to just watch Interstellar and be reassured about my place on Earth. I'm no McConaughey. But one thing we can all agree upon is memes. And as far as I know, they're only available on Earth.
