When I first got my driver's license, I was terrified of actually taking my mom's car out and driving it myself. I was so sure I was going to cause damage to it, and I simply did not want to get in trouble. And you know what? I was rightfully scared. Because in that first year of driving, I caused so much damage to it, that it was actually embarrassing.
Thankfully, my mom didn't force me to actually pay for all that damage but to be fair, she could, and it would have been understandable. Take what happened in this Reddit story for example. The kid, who is 19 years old and in college, causes severe damage to his dad's car, leading to the car needing to be repainted. The dad, although not really angry, expected the son to pay for the damage, but the son refused, and even got his mom to take his side. Pretty ungrateful behavior if you ask me.
