Let's talk about scheduling shifts.

Though it might be a drag to see that you're scheduled a bunch during certain weeks, nothing beats a hefty paycheck being deposited into your bank account. When you don't get assigned shifts or tasks, management will start to question if your presence at the company is necessary. Some bosses simply have it out for certain employees for their own unwarranted reasons, and unfortunately, there is very little to be done about that. The OP of this story is facing a similar issue.

OP is an HVAC technician who recently got a new gig. He still needs to be trained but was told to shadow the main technician when things become less chaotic. After the workplace chaos comes to a stop, he is still not given many tasks. OP has been asked to go home early multiple times simply because there is nothing for him to do. Between upper management "ambush meetings" and possibly being purposefully given the wrong address to attend a mandatory class, OP cannot catch a break.
