It can be difficult to gauge the formality of an office environment. If you work on Wall Street, it's pretty easy to figure out that you're going to have to wear a suit 52 weeks out of the year, but what about the rest of us? If you have a nondescript office job, the formality you're expected to adhere to could be a black tie, or you could wear cutoff jeans every day like I do. The only way to find out is to go into the office in question for a job interview.
When dressing for interviews, it's of the utmost importance to dress better than you'd probably dress for a regular day at work. It might seem like an old-fashioned notion that wearing a blazer will help you get the job, but you have to play the game! If you're unwilling to adhere to some level of professionalism, especially before you even get the job, you're in deep trouble. The Gen-Zer at the center of this story is one who is unwilling to play the game.
