A cat running away… is one of the worst feelings ever. The uncertainty that you feel about where it is and how it's doing. The worry that it might get hurt. That fear that it might not return. It's an indescribable pain. Now, of course, there is hope of reuniting with your cat. You might get lucky and find your cat, or your cat might return on its own - whether it's after a few hours or a few years. It might happen, but until it does, the uncertainty and fear could paralyze you. We know it because it has happened to us.
If it does happen, if your cat disappears all of a sudden, then… you would expect sympathy from the people you love, even if the cat is not theirs. You would expect an apology if they were the ones who accidentally allowed the cat to run away. But that's not what happened here. Instead of all of that, the girlfriend in this thread called her boyfriend dramatic, and now, they're at war, so the boyfriend did the only right thing and turned to the internet for advice.
You're not. That's the short and simple answer. A pet running away, no matter the circumstances, is insanely difficult to deal with, but having the person who let them out, accidentally or not, be so dismissive of your feelings? That's just awful.
Really, we can only say here that we are so, so happy that you found your cat. Because in cases like these, most people don't. We didn't. We had to wait for our cats to return to us, and the worry was impossible to deal with. Cuddle this girl, consider dumping the other one, that's our advice.
