I won't give you the whole spiel on front desk workers and the terrors and annoyances they endure due to being in a customer-facing position. However, talking about potential financial fraud is important because hotel employees specifically have to put up with people attempting to put high-amount charges onto cards that might not belong to them. If you're not careful, you might be unknowingly complicit in credit card fraud. Luckily, there are protocols in place for front desk employees when checking in a customer, such as making sure the customer's ID matches the card they'll be using to pay. Credit cards don't have pins, so it's pretty easy to put some charges on there without any trouble.
The hotel employee in this story is dealing with a woman who is trying to pay with her mother's credit card instead of her own while the mother is not present. They argue back and forth and the woman “Janet” is refusing any sort of way to get in contact with her mother to approve the purchase. The hotel employee assumes that the woman's mother is elderly because the woman seems to be middle-aged. The employee then wonders if the woman is financially extorting her elderly mother (based on assumption, of course). Either way, the woman ends up paying with her own card, and the employee makes a note to future employees that she is not allowed to switch bank cards. Whaddya know! She tries to do the same thing to an employee the next day. Read ahead to get the full story, including some stories from people equally as annoyed with this “Janet”.
