They say 'The truth will set you free', but they must have never had to work for a company that doesn't care at all about what you really think. If employees try to be honest and tell the truth to their employers, it will most likely get them in trouble, which would only result in those employees probably wishing they kept the truth to themselves.
But there are some employees out there who might say that being honest is the best way forward in the workplace, much like the employee in this Reddit story. OP (original story) has been doing their job for three years and was hugely disappointed after not getting the raise they deserved earlier this year. Then their boss asked OP to take on even more responsibilities, hinting that doing so might help them get a raise next time. In response, OP, believing that honesty is the best approach, refused to take on more work, and went as far as lowering their current work pace so that they wouldn't be asked again.
