You're a successful dermatologist, and today is a very important day. You've spent the last 25 years, working for this very moment. You gave up relationships, sacrificed your social life, and spent many sleepless, exhausting, and grueling days and nights overworking yourself in your residency to become the chief resident. As a fellow, you perfected your skills and knowledge about skin. This was no mere accident, you were not naturally gifted in this field in any way. You poured your own blood, sweat, and tears into your education and work. And now it's going to pay off as you are finally being promoted to medical director. There is a staff party in your honor, and as you open the door to your office, your colleagues surround you with cheers and congratulations.
One of your peer's wives is a baker, and she has made you a cake. It is an anatomically correct depiction of human skin. With frosting, candy, and sugar, it illustrates the dermis, epidermis, glands, nerves, pores, hair follicles, and even fat found on our largest organ. It is truly a monstrosity, disgusting to look at, off-putting, and incredibly unappetizing. It was a truly terrible idea, but you must admit, it is really well made. You accept the cake graciously. Maybe you won't eat it, but you will take a picture to treasure it forever (and to post online for the world to see).
