This person was heading to a wedding with their dad. This wedding, however, was for Dad's nemesis's son. That meant that Dad was automatically ready to stir the pot: since he dislikes his brother, he's willing to mess with the brother's son's wedding day. Commenters agreed with the original poster that Dad took things way too far here.
