The story below is an account of a frustrated daughter. Since her mother remarried approximately a year after she was born, the original poster (OP) has never had a relationship with her father. As a result,  her mother's husband has been the main male role model in her life for as long as she can remember. But when her mother and new husband began raising kids together, their dynamic began to change. OP was no longer referred to as his daughter but rather as his stepdaughter. In addition, he would only list his two biological daughters when asked how many children he had—OP omitted.

OP eventually came to terms with the truth that she has no father and that she should give up trying to make her stepfather love and care for her like a daughter. Thus, because her grandfather has always loved her and thought of her as a daughter, she decided to ask him to walk her down the aisle when the time came to start preparing for her wedding. But rather than this being a joyous moment that everyone enjoyed, OP's stepfather chastised her for what he perceived to be a 'lack' of gratitude for what he had 'sacrificially' endured for her.
