    What Would Our Favorite Shōnen Anime Look Like If They Were Produced By Studio Ghibili?

    If you clicked on this listicle, you're probably a shōnen fan. That means, you're probably well-versed in all the tropes. There's all the different character archetypes like the wise old man who is secretly powerful and super buff, the main character who could eat the Cheesecake Factory menu as a snack, and a villain who keeps evolving to his new 'final form,' repeatedly. There's also always some sort of tournament arc, an arc to find or rescue a lost friend, and a quest to find an object. Yes, we've seen it all repackaged and rebranded multiple times, and yet we still eat it up and love it. 

    Studio Ghibli has its fair share of trademarks, too. Ghibli movies have strong environmentalist themes, whimsical animal side-kicks, and plenty of slow, quiet moments where characters take the time to cook a meal or gaze out at a beautiful landscape. At first glance, Ghibli movies and shōnen anime don't have much in common, but indeed, they do share some tropes: coming-of-age themes, en emphasis in the importance of love and friendship, and a whole lot of adventure!
