If you're working a salaried position, the question of whether or not to work overtime can be tricky to answer. If you're working hourly, your willingness to work an extra shift is directly correlated with you getting paid more if you do so. Whether you say yes or no, a bargaining chip is at play. In a salaried job, it's a lot easier to take advantage of employees because of how difficult it is to get overtime pay. Most workers will work a couple of extra hours a week here and there without asking for overtime, either because it doesn't seem worth it or their contracts don't include overtime. It's not fair, but that's the way it is.
If you're putting far more than a couple of extra hours in a week, you'd hope your company would be more accepting of showing up 15 minutes late, but as one woman shared on X, that isn't always the case.
