Your job gives you PTO, so you're free to use it, right? So why do employees always feel guilty about taking vacations? Apologetically, we grovel at the feet of our managers, desperate to get our PTO request approved so we can replenish our depleted burnout battery. And even with 157 hours in our PTO bank, the workforce cringes at the thought of taking a long weekend to enjoy summertime with your family. With an employee roster run ragged and timesheets piling up, it's all we can do to get outta dodge for a while.
Enjoy the summer. Go on that vacation. Take the PTO.
Work will survive without you! It may come as an unfortunate newsflash to most of the hardworking employees out there, but the workplace will get along just fine while you're gone. We're good. No amount of overtime, pre-work, and vacation-time email checks could replace an employee onsite, but your company will always find a way to move forward in your stead.
So while the sun is shining and the beach is beautiful, get out there and enjoy it! You'll come back to your desk renewed, fulfilled, and happily sunburned.
