If you were a kid in the early 2000s, you probably grew up trying to catch new episodes of Naruto, Dragon Ball, and One Piece on Cartoon Network, Toonami, or 4Kids after school. At the peak of shonen anime's reign on children's television, playgrounds at recess were filled with kids pretending to fight with twig kunai, sailing on seesaw boats, and collecting pinecone dragonballs.
