Every employee wants to feel like they can trust their coworkers no matter what. You don't have to be best friends with your coworkers, but knowing you have someone you can turn to when you need to talk, when you need help, or even when you need someone to cover for you, is one of the most important things in a workplace.
I initially understood the coworker's request in this Reddit story, for these exact reasons – Her manager didn't approve her time off, and she needed someone to cover her shift, so she turned to OP (original poster) for help, extremely valid. What was not valid, was her reaction when OP apologized and said she couldn't cover for her. The coworker proceeded to pester OP and demand she takes over her shift, until eventually she simply lied to their manager and said that OP agreed to do it.
Thankfully, OP didn't back down, so scroll down to read the full conversation between the two, and the update OP provided in the comments. After you are done with this story, click here for a story of an employee who ignored his boss's calls while on his day off.
