Demanding customers are the worst, but let's be honest, we've all probably been one at some point. Sometimes, you just need to put a little pressure and weight behind your requests in order to ensure your needs are heard through the muffled din of tedious bureaucratic process. This is true now more than ever with more and more corporations choosing to employ fewer customer service workers, relying on automated systems to weed out requests before anyone ever needs to lift a finger. Of course, by no means does this mean that you have to be a crazed maniac in order to get what you want, flipping the switch into barbaric, unbridled rage.
Even when push comes to shove, being level-headed and professional is always going to get you further than otherwise. Even if the customer service rep you get assigned seems rather incompetent or petty, choosing not to stoop to that level is still the best course of action. The pettier you become, the happier they will be to be petty also, and then you can guarantee that your request isn't going anywhere.
It's a fact that many service providers rely on you not paying attention to your rising rates and the expiration of special deal periods in order to nickel and dime the unbothered and unaware out of more and more cash. These providers also will usually offer you special rates again in order to keep your business when you call to cancel. So, it becomes a wise strategy to call once a year when your special rate expires and try to cancel your service subscription in the hopes that you'll be offered a special rate to stay. Of course, there's a good way to do this and a bad way to do this; take things too far, and you might find yourself scrambling to find a new provider.
