The age at which young adults finally move out of their parents' houses is getting older and older the more time passes. With inflation only going up, it is getting practically impossible for kids to afford to live on their own, so they continue to rely on the support of their families, at least when it comes to their living situation.
But not all kids get along with their parents, and some can't wait to turn 18 simply so they can move out, no matter the costs. This also means that not all young adults are very excited to move back in with their parents after they finish college, even if it means saving a lot of money.
Similarly, the person who wrote this Reddit story, who had already moved out of his parents' house, decided to refuse his parents' offer to move back in, because he knew it wouldn't do any good to their relationship. The refusal though, also didn't do good for their relationship and created quite a dispute on their family holiday.
