Gamers have always sought freedom from the confines of the world by escaping to gaming realities. Regardless of a video game's purpose, objectives, or story, ultimately, we play games because they're fun and take us out of the real world. So when Animal Crossing came along and gave us all an opportunity to create our own perfectly adorable, strawberry shortcake existence in a sweet ol' animal universe, how could we say no?
In exchange for a good chunk of our free time, Animal Crossing has given us a positively peaceful existence online that has nothing to do with warfare, zombie apocalypses, or alien invasions. We can simply trade other villagers for handsome sweaters, go fishing in the sea by our home, and do chores around the house to feel complete.
Life is good when you're a villager in Animal Crossing and even though the hapless wanderings of every AC player are unique, it's special in their eyes and fulfills exactly what they need that day. Thanks Nintendo!
