The role of the Dungeon Master is not to be undersold. They have to be world-makers, first responders, and babysitters all at the same time. Any DnD player will tell you that a campaign is only as strong as its DM. If your DM is dropping the ball, then it's hard for the players to pick up the slack. But if you have an epic DM with vision, follow through, and an ability to do awesome voices, then it's pretty easy to do some good roleplaying yourself.
DMs have to think about so much at once that they're almost like brain surgeons or short-order cooks. The eggs are frying while the hash browns are crisping up, and you have a waffle order coming down the line that needs to be finished simultaneously. It's complicated work. So if you're a DM, we thank you for your service. And if you're not, send these memes to your DM as a token of your appreciation.
