"If you ever need to refuse to do something in [the] corporate world, don't say you won't do it—accept it and make sure it slows to an excruciating crawl."
Words written by this worker have never been more true, and those who successfully navigate the corporate world find themselves consistently using this tactic to shake off unwanted work without bringing needless attention to themselves.
This worker was an employee of a large corporate entity tasked with training employees and managers alike. They were always certain to stay on top of the latest industry standards, ensuring that their own knowledge and the training material were up to date.
Now, if you've ever worked for a large process-laden corporation, you can probably see where this is going. See, corporations hate any change or creative problem solving, instead preferring to stick, steadfast, to tried and true methods… even when these methods or processes become outdated at least the corporation can be sure they're still one thing: consistent.
The hammer came down when corporate HR approached the team and raised concerns about the fact that central approval processes weren't being followed. Rather than give in, the worker took control of the workshop HR had organized, detailing every step of the bureaucratic processes that needed to be followed in order to get such approval. After hours of this, HR finally declared that the session should come to an end and that the next steps would instead be… A session that they would never seek to initiate, instead letting the issue quietly fade into the background.
