Let this story serve as yet another example of a situation when the big boss in charge refused to listen to an employee's better judgment and the whole company suffered as a result. This kind of phenomenon happens all the time, but when it happens at a bank, the consequences can be legitimately serious.
This head bank teller was typically in charge of ordering bills at the end of every week and tended to order a bit extra so that the branch never seemed strapped for cash. Of course, all that cash would eventually be put to good use, so it never posed a thread to the bank in any way. However, when the bank teller's manager gave the abrupt instruction to only order the bare minimum needed, the teller tried to reason with his boss to no avail.
So, he decided to maliciously comply to prove his point. Unfortunately for the bank, that meant that this branch would very quickly be running low on cash, thereby receiving tons of complaints from customers and tarnishing the bank's reputation. Keep scrolling below for the full play-by-play. When you're done, take a look at this post about an on-call employee who was unfairly reprimanded.
