Welcome back millennial women of the interwebs. Growing up in the 90s meant a lot of things. Growing up on Disney movies, Now CDs, and playing with garden hoses outside in the summertime. Disney movies played a critical role in our development. From their orchestrated and musical soundtracks, their timeless and hilarious side characters, and their constant encouragement for young women to drop everything they're doing to pursue the heart of a man they have fallen in love with.
Disney may have instilled an unhealthy mentality surrounding love, relationships, and dating. From getting married at an incredibly young age, to surrendering your entire life and future for a man you have barely met. It's no wonder our generation has raised expectations for men and dating, we all want to be treated like princesses. Though this isn't a bad thing to raise expectations for men to know how to treat women, it also might not be productive to have a grandiose idea about what being in love or married should look like. There's love, initial, passionate, and infatuated love, then there's loving someone long-term, for who they are, and the willingness to stick through anything with each other. Even though Disney may have inflicted some funny impressions on us, we can still watch reruns and appreciate them for not being men in the modern dating realm.
