It's funny how I know pretty much nothing about real life, yet I know so much about fictional worlds that someone else invented. I have no idea how to fill out my taxes, how my government works, or even the names of my next-door neighbors. But if you ask me the name of Gandalf's horse, I immediately shout out, "Shadowfax!" If you ask me how the time machine works in *Back to the Future*, I can tell you that you need to turn on the flux capacitor, input the desired date (November 5th, 1955, seems to hold some cosmological importance), and hit exactly 88 mph.
Why does my brain retain the information that a TIE fighter is named after the sound it makes (which is a recording of an Indian elephant), but I don't remember my own phone number? Why is that? Please, I need answers!
