One thing that we have learned over our time writing about animals, it's that sometimes, it's not you who chooses the animal. Sometimes, it's the animal who chooses you. How else does one become best friends with a giant fish? Or accidentally adopt a wolf? Or get adopted by a tiny wild octopus? As people who love animals, we have been wishing for something like this to happen to us for the longest time, but we have not been chosen by the animals like others have, to our dismay.

We would have loved to have been chosen by the rat in this thread, even though that was never the animal that we imagined being chosen by. We would have loved it because after reading this story and seeing how precious and adorable these rats are… we realize that there's a reason this rat chose and human and not some other one.

Fair. We 100% did not understand why people were goofing on the goldfish guy. It really is factual that, sometimes, it's the pets that choose you, not you who chooses the pets. That's how it works with cats all the time. No reason to be surprised when it happens with a random goldfish or a rat.

Fine. Maybe a little bit of a reason to be surprised. It's significantly less likely to happen, we admit. But apparently, it does happen, and apparently, as can be seen in this thread, it can be cute as heck.
