'I wasn't going to be giving [a tip] based on the service': Theme park visitor is told by staffer at self service restaurant that they needed to tip

Tipping culture is getting weird. These days, in the mid 2020s, it seems like a tip is requested or required for nearly every service. At the same time, there's a lot less human interaction required for many restaurants and supermarkets. Instead of having a cashier ring up your groceries, you probably do that yourself at a self-service kiosk. After you scan your stuff, you bag your own items. You never need to interact with another person at all! And at a lot of fast-food establishments, you no longer need to tell a cashier what you want to eat, because you'll be using the touch-screen kiosk to punch in your own order. Then you walk up to the counter and get your food—once again, human interaction barely needs to happen at all. 

This person probably wasn't expecting to tip at a theme park. Most places you buy food at are small food vendors. If you're being waited on, of course it's polite to tip if you're happy with the service.
