Let us discuss the concept of minimum wage. In case you didn't know, the minimum hourly wage was initially set according to the current cost of living and was meant to set the minimal bar that ensures employees would be able to afford the most basic human needs. As years went by, and costs of living grew more and more expensive, we have reached a point in which the minimum wage no longer accomplishes the one thing it was made to do.
To read a story in which an employee with 20 years of experience is offered a job that pays $12 an hour is simply mind-boggling. Not to mention the fact that OP (original poster) didn't even ask for much in the first place, as he claimed that in his field employees usually get paid only $19 an hour. But OP decided to still accept the job, only to never show up on the first day.
