The grandma in this person's malicious compliance story was fed up with her bank. It's a place that people used to go to constantly---you used to have to wait in long lines to deposit your paychecks, or go there to withdraw money, or go in person to discuss loans. It was never the most pleasant experience, since many people ended up waiting in long lines or dealing with impolite bank employees. These days, going to the bank is almost a thing of the past, thanks to direct deposit paychecks and mobile banking. You can do almost any type of banking you wish, all from the screen of your phone. No more long lines when you can open your banking app and move money around with three taps.
This person was with their grandmother at the bank when this whole situation went down, and it could've been easily avoided with some better customer service.
