People are strange, and that's a fact. Each of us has our own strange idiosyncrasies ranging widely in severity, that make us who we are. So, when we grow up and get our own homes and have our own kids creating effectively our own little families in our own little worlds where we can set our own rules… well—things can get very strange indeed. Did you spend your whole life hating your dirty floors? Well, now you can forbid anyone from walking on them if you want to, forcing your guests to play "the floor is lava" as they clamber over your counters and furniture to navigate the house. You might find that, if you choose to live your life this way, you don't have many repeat visitors… But that's still not going to stop you.
Of course, this "strangeness" ranges from delightfully weird takes on common household rules to things that are downright mistreatment of the people who are being forced to follow them.
Being invited as a kid to someone else's house presents the chance to be exposed from a whole suite of new rules independant of your parents'. And if your the kid that grew up in the house with the weird rules chances are there were things you thought were totally normal until you moved out… Heck, you still might think that some of these things are normal. Have a look through this collection of answers people shared and see if any of them ring any bells.
