Nobody is free of the gendered expectations of society. Even if you are a baldheaded baby with no real identity outside of loving mommy and proudly pooping your pants, you are expected to act and look in accordance with your gender. If a baby boy has long hair, people will say he looks like a girl, and it needs to be cut. If your little girl is bald, she better be wearing pink at all times, or the public will shame her for being insufficiently feminine. It doesn't help that parents get super defensive when their baby is misgendered, even though boy and girl babies are pretty indistinguishable from each other at first glance.
A company's ad for hairbow glue recently went viral, and people are up in arms about it. I find it baffling that a mother would glue a bow to her baby's head to ensure that nobody thinks she's a boy, but that's just me.
