Everybody has some periods of their life when they are unfit for dating. For me, that was my first couple of years of college. I wasn't sexless for lack of trying, but I had several problems that were keeping me from finding romantic connections: I had cystic acne, I gained about 15 pounds, I had a bad haircut, and I had ugly clothes. One of these problems on their own might've been okay, but all of them together made dating virtually impossible. I had to put in the work, go on Accutane, stop eating three bowls of cereal for breakfast every day, and grow out my hair to finally get some action.
While making some external changes helped my dating life, it's not like I had to become a perfect person in order to date. One "wellness practitioner" recently went viral for saying that people should have their life together before dating, and the vast majority of Twitter users disagree.
