I was never much of a science person. I shuffled my way through biology, physics, and chemistry without much fanfare. It never fully took for me. But that all changed when I took an Intro to Astronomy for non-majors (AKA for dumb humanities people) class in college. The professor did a wonderful job of explaining the basics of the universe to those of us without a science background. Once I started learning about gravity, the formation of the planets, and the time-space continuum, (not to mention black holes) things got a lot more interesting. "Space rocks, and everyone should know about it" I started to think.
It also made consuming sci-fi more interesting. Interstellar is more fun when you know the basics of time-space. But the real science is best left to actual scientists, not me, and certainly not Matthew McConaughey. I'll stick to my sci-fi memes. Those require very little knowledge to understand.
