Something I'd never thought I'd miss about high school but it turns out I actually do: assembly. That tradition in the mornings when we'd get together in the auditorium and there'd be an array of announcements, need-to-knows, and the occasional performance. There was something nice about knowing what everyone was up to. I liked knowing that Ian had a basketball tournament coming up and that Jamie was working on a play and needed stagehands.
Now the only way to know what my loose acquaintances are up to is on LinkedIn, and I get acid reflux every time I open that website. Assembly also produced some legendary performances. Like the musical previews that everyone hated, some pretty poor Tracy Chapman covers, and a stand-up routine that none of us will ever forget. Morning meetings just don't have the same flavor. At least we have memes to bring us together. That will never go away.
