As you rise through the ranks of your career, you might spot opportunities to prove yourself. Maybe your boss is going on vacation, and they ask you to keep an eye on things until they're back. Or maybe your supervisor wants you to take on extra responsibilities to help you better understand the industry. Employees will often take on extra responsibilities even if there's no financial incentive. They want to seem like team players who could eventually be trusted with leadership roles.
It can certainly be awkward to ask for more money alongside these additional duties, and bosses are counting on their employees being happy with the status quo. If you don't ask for a raise, you'll never get one, and your boss will never stop doling out more work, either.
This analyst, u/Working_Mans_Reddit, shared that they got stuck working in a managerial position for nine months. Their boss then refused to pay them the manager's pay for that time period---instead, they were paid their regular salary. At least this person got some incredible revenge on such a terrible boss.
